Updated: Dec 8, 2021

Have you ever wondered how sex and sex hormones can affect your brain? Well, this is a question that Dr. Liisa Galea is trying to answer!

Dr. Liisa Galea is a Canadian neuroscientist and a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She also plays several principal roles in academia, such as being a member at the Centre for Brain Health at the University, the Health Advisor to VPRI, Lead of the Women's Health Research Cluster, and a Scientific Advisor for the Women's Health Research Institute. The main focus of her research is to uncover how sex and sex hormones affect normal and diseased brain conditions, such as depression and Alzheimer's disease in both women and men.

Throughout her research and academic work, Dr. Galea has shown inclusivity in psychological sciences, where not many think about the importance of inclusion and diversity in their research studies. Dr. Galea continues to inspire many as she pursues research that compares the brain health and function of sex hormones in both women and men, making a bold statement. This can influence future scientists to follow in her footsteps by pursuing research that focuses on the health of both men and women.
